From dangerous, under-qualified cabinet appointees to previewing an authoritarian agenda, MAGA is getting in formation to hit the ground running in January 2025. That means we also have just under two months to get ready, rest up, and rise to meet the moment. From December through February, we’ll be hosting a local cohort as part of SURJ National’s Gear Up training program. We want as many of you to join us as possible!
Gear Up is a learning, training, and action program. With experts from social justice movements across the country and world, we’ll dig into education on topics like the rise of the far right in the US, organizing strategies under authoritarianism, and the role of white people in social movements.
We’ll also get trained in organizing skills, like how to talk to white people about racism, how to hold meetings to bring more people into this work, and how to take action locally to resist the terrifying agenda Trump has in store for us.
The program has two parts:
1. Bi-weekly Training Webinars. Every other week, cohorts across the country will come together nationwide for Wednesday night National Training Calls on Zoom. The dates are:
- Wed. Dec. 4, 8pm-9:30pm ET / 5pm-6:30pm PT
- Wed. Dec. 18, 8pm-9:30pm ET / 5pm-6:30pm PT
- Wed. Jan 8, 8pm-9:30pm ET / 5pm-6:30pm PT
- Wed. Jan. 22, 8pm-9:30pm ET / 5pm-6:30pm PT
- Wed. Feb. 5, 8pm-9:30pm ET / 5pm-6:30pm PT
These calls will be recorded! If you can’t make the trainings live, you can watch the recording that will be available starting the following morning.
2. Local Cohort Meetings. In the weeks between the National Trainings, our local cohort will meet in hybrid format (in-person and Zoom options) to digest and discuss the previous week’s training content together, and build skills in community with each other. These meetings will take place during the weeks of December 9, December 30, January 13, January 27, and February 10. We will schedule these meetings in accordance with cohort members’ availability!
